Leadership Appointment

CATHSSETA proudly welcomes Dr Karabo Mbele as the new Board Chairperson. Dr Mbele is a seasoned executive with extensive local and international experience across the private and public sectors, including banking, mining, investment, retail and insurance. She previously chaired the South African Youth Forum Abroad (UK), demonstrating exceptional leadership and integrity. She brings robust operational and regulatory expertise, having served as Acting CEO of PanSALB, and has a strong consulting background in business advisory, operations, and risk management. Her expertise is further enriched by her work as an executive business coach for Absa and collaborations with global institutions including Barclays PLC and AIG. In her current role as Chief Executive Officer of the Gauteng Gambling Board, she oversees a sector contributing more than R1 billion annually to the provincial fiscus, ensuring compliance while driving sound governance and strategic transformation. Dr Mbele’s governance portfolio includes serving on boards and committees with significant regulatory mandates, strengthening compliance frameworks, ethical procurement, and alignment with legislative requirements.
