Call for nominations to serve on the CATHSSETA BOARD (from April 2018 – March 2020)

Persons to be appointed by the Minister of Higher Education and Training as members of the Accounting Authority of the Culture, Arts, Tourism, Hospitality and Sports Sector Education and Training Authority (CATHSSETA)

The CATHSSETA is a Schedule 3 public entity established in terms of Section 9(1) of the Skills Development Act (SDA), No 97 of 1998. The Mandate of the CATHSSETA is to facilitate skills development in the following subsectors: Culture, Arts and Heritage; Tourism and Travel Services; Hospitality; Gaming and Lotteries; Conservation; and Sport, Recreation and Fitness. To address this, the SDA enjoins CATHSSETA to develop the Sector Skills Plan and implement various learning programmes in support thereof.

The Minister of Higher Education and Training invites nominations from relevant CATHSSETA sectors of qualified persons representing organized labour, organized employers, civil society and other role players to serve as members of the CATHSSETA Board. The Minister will consider candidates with proven experience in fostering good governance, understanding of the legislative and policy framework applicable to the CATHSSETA as well as government policies and plans applicable to the subsectors referred to above.

Nominated representatives from CATHSSETA sectors should have competencies in one or more of the following disciplines:

  • Application of corporate governance and ethics
  • Skills development legislation and the NSDS III
  • The Public Finance Management Act
  • Financial management
  • Education, training, skills development and human resources development, and
  • Quality assurance of learning provision

Nominations must contain a full motivation, the full name and address of the candidates, a signed nomination form and acceptance of the nomination by the nominee, an ID Copy and Curriculum Vitae of the nominee.

Candidates will be subjected to security clearance and disclosure of business interests. Correspondence will be limited to short-listed candidates only.

Nominations (physical documents) must be submitted at CATHSSETA Head Office Reception by no later than Monday, 17 July 2017 at 16:30, addressed to: CATHSSETA Board Nominations 2017, CATHSSETA, 01 Newtown Avenue, Killarney, Johannesburg, 2193. Please download the nomination form. Nominations received after the closing date will not be considered.

CATHSSETA extends condolences to Dr Blade Nzimande – Minister of Higher Education and Training for his mother’s passing

CATHSSETA Board, management and all staff extend their sincere and heartfelt condolences to the Minister of Higher Education and Training Dr Blade Nzimande on the passing of his mother, Mrs Nozipho Nzimande. Mrs Nzimande affectionately known as ‘uGogo’ died on Sunday, 11 June 2017, at 90 years of age.

CATHSSETA pays tribute to Mrs Nzimande for the role she played towards our democracy. In the 1980s and 1990s, Mrs Nzimande used her home as a refuge to the to the liberation struggle activists. She is also a mother to our respectable and brilliant leader in Higher Education and Training.

We convey our sympathy to the Minister and his family at large.

May she rest in eternal peace!

REQUEST FOR COMMENTS: FAST FOOD COOK OCCUPATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

CATHSSETA applied to be a Development Quality Partner for the realignment of the National Certificate: Fast Food Services 14115 to an occupational qualification. The process of re-alignment involves different phases namely:

  • to evaluate, clarify and process the application and the OFO Code identified; to obtain agreement on stakeholder involvement and curriculum scope;
  • to determine other legacy qualification impacted; to determine the AQP; project planning and development time frames;
  • to re-align and develop activities;
  • to verify processes and activities;
  • editing and quality checking; and
  • finalisation and sign off.

CATHSSETA invites the hospitality industry to provide us with comments/feedback on the qualification documents by no later than Friday, 21 April 2017. All comments should be addressed to Ms Dimpho Phungwayo and sent to: etqa@cathsseta.org.za.
