CALL FOR NOMINATIONS OF SUITABLE CANDIDATES FROM THE ORGANISED LABOUR CONSTITUENCY WITHIN THE JURISDICTION OF THE CULTURE, ARTS, TOURISM, HOSPITALITY AND SPORT SECTOR EDUCTION AND TRAINING AUTHORITY (CATHSSETA) TO SERVE AS MEMBERS OF THE BOARD
Section 9 of the Skills Development Act No. 97 of 1998 as amended (SDA) makes provision for the
establishment of Sector Education Training Authorities (SETAs) for each national economic sector. Each
SETA must perform its functions in accordance with SDA, the Skills Development Levies Act No.9 of
1999 (SDLA), the Public Finance Management Act No. 1 of 1999 as amended (PFMA) and any other
legislation and the SETA Constitution.
Organised Labour Constituent members are invited to submit nominations of candidates to be considered
for appointment by the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Honourable Dr B.E.
Nzimande, to fill the following vacancies on the Board of the CATHSSETA :
Two (2) Members representing Organised Labour (female candidates preferred).
NB: In order to promote representivity in relation to gender and geographical spread on the Board,
we encourage candidates, mostly female residing in Eastern Cape, Free State, Northern Cape,
Western Cape and Mpumalanga Provinces to avail themselves for nomination.
Section 11(4)(c) of the SDA states that “in appointing the members as contemplated in subsection (2),
the Minister, must ensure, in so far as is practicably possible, that the membership of the Accounting
Authority (Board) in question is drawn from the ranks of senior officials in the organisations in question”.
Candidates must meet the requirements stated below and must be currently occupying senior ranks
within their organisations:
- Possession of relevant undergraduate educational qualification and experience in the fields of: Financial
management; Education, Training and Development; Corporate Governance and Law; - Knowledge and understanding of legislative, regulatory prescripts and policies governing the SETA
environment.
Nominations to be completed using the prescribed forms, obtainable from the CATHSSETA website:
www.cathsseta.org.za. Nomination must be accompanied by a detailed Curriculum Vitae of the
nominee, certified copy of Identity Document (ID); Educational qualifications (certified within six (6)
months); and a letter of consent from the nominating organisation, indicating the availability of the
nominee. No self nomination/application will be accepted. Candidates shall be subjected to security,
criminal and credit checks and qualification verification as part of the appointment process.
